Presumed Competence vs. Presumed Potential

☀️☀️ During my time as a Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP), I have observed that perspectives on concepts, ideas, and terminology often swing dramatically from one extreme to the other. This may be necessary to discover a balanced approach?!—the essence of the human experience, I suppose. I believe that achieving balance is crucial, and this is an ongoing journey in our field, especially as new information emerges constantly!

I want to share my insights on the terms “presume competence” and “presume potential.” Both concepts hold significant value, and we cannot fully embrace one without acknowledging the other.
